New five-pin UTL range: all-terrain connector for industrial applications

23/03/2017

Esterline Connection Technologies – SOURIAU's five-pin UTL range is not only very simple to use, it is also perfectly suited to applications that require field wiring. Compliant with IEC 60320, IEC 69184 and UL 1977, the five-pin UTL range is a must for new industrial facilities and field facilities. The range has been available from Esterline Connection Technologies – SOURIAU's distributors since April 2017.

Simplified field implementation

The five pos UTL connector significantly improves tasks for operators who work on aerial work platforms or in tight spaces. This connector had been designed to be easy to use and to be quick to install on the field. "A screwdriver is all that fitters need to connect wires to the five contacts", says Product Manager Ludovic Paris.

Metal coupling latch provided in the connector ensure an audible click that is both sensitive and instantaneous. The connector is unlocked simply by pulling on the plug and pressing the latch at the same time. The contacts comply with DMX and DALI protocols as well as with the RS-485 standard to ensure quality data transfers and enable equipment to be remotely controlled. The contacts are fitted with a captive screw to retain wires in the crimp barrel, withstand currents of up to 16 A, and accommodate flexible wires with cross-sectional areas of 1.5 to 2.5 mm² (from 18-14 AWG).

Robust and safe for users

The push-pull lock and thermoplastic construction of the plugs and receptacles ensure safety for users. The receptacle of the five-pin UTL connector is available in one version. A jam nut mounted to a panel having a maximum thickness of 3.2 mm (0.125"). The mating surface of the receptacle and panel is sealed by a silicone O-ring (supplied). The second version is an inline receptacle with rear backshell with sealing gland for extending cables.

A five-pin UTL with crimp contacts is available for more conventional industrial applications, such as ESD cord preparation. When connected, the plug and receptacle ensure IP68 and IP69K ingress protection and are resistant to high-pressure water jets. The five-pin UTL connector is designed to withstand over 1000 connections and disconnections and is usable over a temperature range of –40°C to +105°C.

Complementary with other UTL connectors, this range is perfectly suited to industrial applications as well as mobile equipment.

These connectors have been available from Esterline Connection Technologies – SOURIAU's distributor network since April 2017.
